This past week my daughter and I attended a Volunteer Appreciation lunch from the library, and they took us to a new museum in our area, the Crystal Bridges Museum.  We were allowed to take photos (with no flash), so I used my phone.  The pictures aren’t as clear as I would like, and I don’t have the title and artist for each photo, but we sure did enjoy our trip!  We’ll be visiting again this summer.

We traveled to Columbus, GA to visit our daughter, son-in-law, and baby grand-daughter for Mother’s Day weekend.  While we were there we visited the Fort Benning and went to the National Infantry Museum & Soldier Center .  Here are some photos of the museum – it details Wars and Battles in America chronologically.

And one last picture of the grandbaby!

My lil heart goes to a non-traditional school (year-round), so while our summer is shorter, we have a lot more breaks during the year.  The good thing is that a lot of fun places aren’t very busy during these breaks.  The down-side is that no one else on our street goes to this school, so it’s really quiet and she doesn’t have anyone to play with.

Her best friend lives about a mile and a half away, and goes to the same school, so we have her over a lot on breaks so they can play.  This day, we decided to have an indoor movie day (in part to the sunburns from the previous day in the park).  I let them get movie size candy, and made a bowl of popcorn – these photos chronicle the before the sugar high, and the after, better known as the crash…

Lazy Sunday

Typically I reserve Sundays for sleeping in, a big breakfast, and catching up with the family.  I try to do errands and chores on Saturday so I can rationalize doing a whole lot of nothing on Sundays.  Today was not my typical Sunday.  My little heart did not feel good last night, and the fifth time she got up (in 2 hours), I told her to just crawl in bed with us.  Of course that means that hubby and I are both hugging the edges of our King sized bed, while she sleeps comfortably in the middle.  I was surprised to wake up at 6:45 am, since I had only been asleep since 2am, but I got up, wrote out a grocery list, and that was the first step to my amazingly productive day.

My husband is a rescue diver for the county, and this weekend they have been clearing swim areas at the lake, so my lil’ heart and I joined them at Village Inn for a yummy breakfast, then went to get “real” coffee from our favorite coffee house.  On our way we came upon a little family out for a Sunday stroll.  Perhaps they were looking for a new ride?

After getting our coffee, we went grocery shopping.  I don’t really mind grocery shopping, but I do not like to do it on the weekends.  I thought that perhaps going early enough would spare us the crowds, and I was mostly right.  If I had only been in the store 20 minutes, it would have been perfect timing.  It took a bit longer than that, so it was getting crowded by the time we left.  We put away our groceries, but my productive streak still wasn’t finished (much to my surprise).  I cleaned bathrooms and litter box, did laundry, wrote cards and letters, packed up Mother’s Day gifts and replied to emails.  I even started dinner in the crock pot!

When I finally decided to sit down and check Facebook, Sabertooth was exhausted from watching me work, and needed a nap.  Another nap.  I wouldn’t give him my lap, so he took what he could get.  I don’t understand how cats can be comfortable and sleep almost anywhere!

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday, whether its productive or lazy, or a little bit of both!

This weekend’s snapshot is of our little orange cat, Sabertooth.  “Little” is relative, because compared to our other cat, Baxter, Sabertooth IS little – Baxter tops the scale at over 20 lbs.  He needs a feline Jenny Craig.  Anyway, Sabertooth came to us after several homes in our area were foreclosed on, and people moved and some left their pets behind.  Dogs are easier to catch, but catching a cat that doesn’t want to be caught is pretty much like buying a lotto ticket.  Your chances of accomplishing what you want is very slim.  Sabertooth started coming around our yard, flirting.  Apparently somehow he found out about my weakness for orange kitties.  After a while I invited him in, he and Baxter had their sniff-around, and decided to leave each other alone.  Sabertooth is de-clawed, so I knew he was used to being in the house, and he’s never acted unrefined, so he’s been free to come and go as he pleases.

A few weeks ago my lil’ heart and I traveled home to Texas for Spring Break, and my mother sent me home with an old chair that used to sit in my grandpa’s den.  I grew up sitting in his lap while he smoked his pipe and watched the horse races in this chair.  After he and my grandmother passed, the chair floated around our house until I claimed it for my room.  After a while my mom claimed it back and had it recovered.  It sat in the office for a while, and I’ve missed that chair.  When my mom suggested I bring it home with me, I was overjoyed!  For some reason, Sabertooth believes I brought it home for him.  It sits between my window and a bookcase, and I write, read, daydream and blog in this chair.  This afternoon I wouldn’t let him in my lap because when he gets on the keyboard he hits all kinds of keys, and totally messes me up.  So, he jumped up on the bookcase to look down at me in disdain.  This is Sabertooth – sitting atop a David Baldacci novel.

My snapshot this Saturday is of a beautiful home I saw in downtown last week.  I had some time to kill between running errands and picking up my lil’ heart from school, so I decided to take a scenic drive and saw this beauty!  I love the top floor balcony on the left.  That’s where you would find me – in a comfy chair with a glass of iced tea and a good book!

My Saturday Snapshot is of a piece of evolving artwork in our area – I’ve seen them in other places as well.  This guy gets an update every few weeks. Here he is decked out for the Race for the Cure.  (But with eyelashes like that, maybe it’s a she!)
