My little one goes to year-round school, so we have the last two weeks ahead of us, and we are crazy busy!  We’ve been running around trying to remember everything we have to get done.  We’ve got dress rehearsals and dance recital, choir performance at a baseball game, talent show, art classes, volunteer work and we are redecorating her room.  I’m suddenly very tired.  With all the hustle and bustle in the house – one member of our family is completely unphased.

Sabertooth.

Lazy Sunday

Typically I reserve Sundays for sleeping in, a big breakfast, and catching up with the family.  I try to do errands and chores on Saturday so I can rationalize doing a whole lot of nothing on Sundays.  Today was not my typical Sunday.  My little heart did not feel good last night, and the fifth time she got up (in 2 hours), I told her to just crawl in bed with us.  Of course that means that hubby and I are both hugging the edges of our King sized bed, while she sleeps comfortably in the middle.  I was surprised to wake up at 6:45 am, since I had only been asleep since 2am, but I got up, wrote out a grocery list, and that was the first step to my amazingly productive day.

My husband is a rescue diver for the county, and this weekend they have been clearing swim areas at the lake, so my lil’ heart and I joined them at Village Inn for a yummy breakfast, then went to get “real” coffee from our favorite coffee house.  On our way we came upon a little family out for a Sunday stroll.  Perhaps they were looking for a new ride?

After getting our coffee, we went grocery shopping.  I don’t really mind grocery shopping, but I do not like to do it on the weekends.  I thought that perhaps going early enough would spare us the crowds, and I was mostly right.  If I had only been in the store 20 minutes, it would have been perfect timing.  It took a bit longer than that, so it was getting crowded by the time we left.  We put away our groceries, but my productive streak still wasn’t finished (much to my surprise).  I cleaned bathrooms and litter box, did laundry, wrote cards and letters, packed up Mother’s Day gifts and replied to emails.  I even started dinner in the crock pot!

When I finally decided to sit down and check Facebook, Sabertooth was exhausted from watching me work, and needed a nap.  Another nap.  I wouldn’t give him my lap, so he took what he could get.  I don’t understand how cats can be comfortable and sleep almost anywhere!

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday, whether its productive or lazy, or a little bit of both!

This weekend’s snapshot is of our little orange cat, Sabertooth.  “Little” is relative, because compared to our other cat, Baxter, Sabertooth IS little – Baxter tops the scale at over 20 lbs.  He needs a feline Jenny Craig.  Anyway, Sabertooth came to us after several homes in our area were foreclosed on, and people moved and some left their pets behind.  Dogs are easier to catch, but catching a cat that doesn’t want to be caught is pretty much like buying a lotto ticket.  Your chances of accomplishing what you want is very slim.  Sabertooth started coming around our yard, flirting.  Apparently somehow he found out about my weakness for orange kitties.  After a while I invited him in, he and Baxter had their sniff-around, and decided to leave each other alone.  Sabertooth is de-clawed, so I knew he was used to being in the house, and he’s never acted unrefined, so he’s been free to come and go as he pleases.

A few weeks ago my lil’ heart and I traveled home to Texas for Spring Break, and my mother sent me home with an old chair that used to sit in my grandpa’s den.  I grew up sitting in his lap while he smoked his pipe and watched the horse races in this chair.  After he and my grandmother passed, the chair floated around our house until I claimed it for my room.  After a while my mom claimed it back and had it recovered.  It sat in the office for a while, and I’ve missed that chair.  When my mom suggested I bring it home with me, I was overjoyed!  For some reason, Sabertooth believes I brought it home for him.  It sits between my window and a bookcase, and I write, read, daydream and blog in this chair.  This afternoon I wouldn’t let him in my lap because when he gets on the keyboard he hits all kinds of keys, and totally messes me up.  So, he jumped up on the bookcase to look down at me in disdain.  This is Sabertooth – sitting atop a David Baldacci novel.
